Routine inspection checklist for installed fire doors
Routine visual checks help identify conditions that may prevent a fire door from closing and latching. Formal inspection frequency and competence should follow the project, authority and maintenance requirements.
Check operation
Open the door fully and confirm that it closes smoothly and latches without assistance.
Inspect gaps and seals
Look for damaged, missing or painted-over seals and unusual clearances.
Review hardware
Check loose hinges, damaged closers, wedging, disconnected hold-open devices and altered locks.
Keep the opening clear
Remove stored materials, floor obstructions and signage that interferes with closing.
